I recently wrecked my 1995 volvo 850 GLT. I loved my car and it saved my life i dont have enough money to buy a new car but i do know that the motor in the car i wrecked was in great shape so im thinking i want to buy a car with a bad motor similar to mine for cheap and switch the motors out. What im not sure about is whether or not it needs to be a car the same make as mine or if the motor will go in other types of volvo's... im trying to get a budget made but i dont know what my motor is compatible with . Any advice would be much appreciated!!

 

The 850 engine wont go into other models like 700-900 series, they were rear wheel drive. I am pretty sure the 850 motor will only go into the 850, and very early v70. To make it easy, try and stick to a similar year that yours is, to avoid the subtle wiring differences.

 

My two cents, sell the engine and buy a complete car. That or stick with an 850 that the engine will drop into.
