volvo 850 oil change and high milage club
ok well i have a 1995 volvo 850 manual transmision base 2.4 .and its 186,286 miles.and i am planning to do a oil change .i already know the oil type but i was wondering what oil brand to use i heard rumors that volvo recomended castrol.what do you guys recommend ? also sense i am about 14 thousand miles from 200k i also heard about a volvo high mileage club but i aint sure how you come about joing it or were to join and if volvo does this or separate from volvo?

With oil you're just opening a can of worms. Everyone has their favorites. Be kind to your engine and use a synthetic with a good filter. Don't use a Fram filter as there have been numerous posts about people having lifter noise at start up with them. I had it happen and didn't know why at the time. I'm getting close to 300K so I just took it for granted it was the lifters being worn. I don't use Fram anymore and haven't had it happen since.

I stick with mann filters, personally. They're not expensive, especially when you catch a sale on a case, and they're volvo OEM.
As for oil....yeah what Kiss said. Some Volvos actually have an oil cap that says "volvo recomments castrol" or something like that. Use whatever you want to use, just run synthetic. Any turbo car will be better off with synthetic.
