Default Volvo 850 T5-R

Hi Guys,

I was just browsing Craigslist in my area - Grand Rapids, MI. I came across a 95 T5-R sedan in yellow.

If anyone's in the market, and lives in/near Michigan, here's a chance at a really rare car. I wish I could buy it!!!!

http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/cto/1656693184.html

Very cool car. I'm totally jealous of the person who picks this puppy up.

Take care!
Curran

Is it hard to make that color? Like do people paint their T-5rs yellow and try to pass them off for origionals? Just curious.

What? Random. Why would anyone do that? It would cost more to paint a black T5-R yellow than it would for an original yellow T5-R. I have never heard of anyone doing that.

They're all originally yellow. No one's out there painting them and trying to pass them off. No one would be dumb enough to try and paint 15 year old cars that have an extremely small market for them. They're not worth much because they're 15 yo cars, majority of people aren't going to care if it's rare or not. The Volvo 850 community is tiny compared to VW, Audi, vintage cars, etc etc. Yellows are just the same as any other 850, they only way your going to be able to get anything extra for one is if you sell it to an enthusiast who is willing to pay extra. I passed up a yellow T5-R for $2,500 because it was in rough shape, I don't care if it's rare, if it needs more attention than my black 850 it's not worth it.

No, they were not all originally yellow.

5000 T-5Rs were produced worldwide, of which 2000 went to the US: The 1995 850 T-5R was limited in exterior paint color choices:
  • cream yellow - 2000 worldwide including sedan and station wagon, 800 to US market
  • black - 3000 worldwide including sedan and station wagon, 1200 to US market
So actually black T-5R's are more commom than yellow.

I know they were not all originally yellow, duh. All the yellow ones you see are and were yellow. People aren't out there painting black T5-Rs yellow to sell them as yellow T5-Rs because that would be pointless and stupid. He's saying if the yellow was always yellow and not a car that was repainted, wouldn't that make the car worth more. And I said that no one's painting them.

I know the stats of the T5-Rs.

I was telling him that all yellows were originally yellow. As in people aren't painting black T5-Rs yellow to sell them as yellows. Is this something that you cannot comprehend, or do I need to draw you a picture?

You didn't prove anything, I didn't change the way I meant it, I still mean the same thing I said before, obviously I just had to clarify it better for you because you couldn't grasp the simple concept of what I was getting at. All you proved is that you would be the only one to read that and interpret it that way and then say something to try to call me out on it like you do on every single thread you've ever posted on. At least it wasn't in bold or colors this time.

which is why I had said in my op that "people aren't painting black T5-Rs yellow". This thread would be obsolete if all T5-Rs were yellow. And that black T5-R I got my bumper and door panels from must have originally been yellow. They probably stripped the entire car to paint it black. I wonder if that makes my car rare now, seeing as how my black bumper and door panels that I thought came out of a black T5-R was actually an almighty rare yellow T5-R. How silly of me.
