Default Volvo 850 Turbo and a bad ECU? Guy trying to sell it for peanuts?

Any tell tale signes of a bad ECU or things that would warrant or to look out for? This dude has a 1995 Volvo 850 T5 and he said that he was taking the car in for maitenance at a shop and the shop fried his computer. He said his friend mechanic (everyone seems to have one) told him there is no current coming from the computer to the coil. He said the car just turns over and does not fire...is he crazy or just does not have a smart friend mechanic? Or is this a symptom of a bad ECU? just wanting to see everyones opinions

Matt

Sounds sketchy...
If a shop fried my ECM, they would be buying me a new one and my car would be working just fine...

I think it's not the same friend or mechanic. But I was just curious if it has any merits. I know on the Mustang (Fox bodies 88-93) when the computer goes bad a tell tale sign is the fuel pump keeps running after the 1st start cycle (the fuel pumps kick on and then goes off with key start. Ingnition on/motor off). Just curious if it was anything like this for symptoms.

my car was flooded and would not turn over for **** so i pulled plugs and dried them off and put lil oil in each cylinder and held gas down for 30 sec than i cranked and it started right up so it could be that.and if the shop ****ed my ecu up they would buy me another 1

Sounds like what mine was doing. I took out the ECU and found 2 or 3 of the sockets pushed down and together. After I fixed the sockets and reinstalled the ECU the car fired up.

+1 With Madd Matt. LMAO! What do they want for the car? If it's 15 years old and not running, it should be $500 or less. If that's the deal, you can take a chance. But don't wait 2 weeks like the other 850 because we don't want to hear about you ALMOST buying 20 cars.

Ha, ha it was actually only 1 hour...I can not help the chic flaked on me. He was selling it for $500 but I was going to offer something dumb like $300. It had a lot more issues than the last one being sold. Live and learn I guess and for your information that one sold within 24 hours too!! I just want everyones opinions on the cars I want to buy; remember I am still new to the Volvo thing and I have been well schooled from everyone here...keep up the good work
