Default Volvo 850 Turbo with a V70R Ecu???

Hi! I have a 1995 Volvo 850 turbo 222hp ,96xxx miles on it and I wanted to add a little more power (chip the Ecu).I wanted to know would an Ecu from a V70R work on my car and if it would, how much power could I get?? If that wouldn't work what should I do? I'm not looking at anything to expensive just maybe add a 100hp(max).

No.

You will need to do several things to add 100 hp. ECU, larger turbo, change injectors, etc. Cruise on the www.iPdUSA.com and look at their stage 3 upgrade.

It's difficult to find compatible ECU's just within the 850 line. A V70 brain just won't work.

'Not expensive' and 'Volvo horsepower' are two ideas that don't go well together. Especially if you're talking about 100 h.p.

Even if the ECU did work, look at the HP numbers from a stock V70R and you wouldn't be gaining much over the 850T. AND, the ECU itself isn't fully responsible for the full 15-20HP the 70 makes over the 850.

If you're not looking for anything too expensive you bought the wrong car.
I remember when I found out that the PCV valve (actually a system) was over a hundred bucks.

It's a Volvo not a Honda Civic or a Chevy Nova where parts are easy, economical and on every corner. That's just a fact, almost anything you need for your 850 is going to be more that the guy next door with a Celica, Civic, PU or .....

Before you think I'm picking on you, read this:
Modding your 2.3L FWD Turbo Volvo 850, 70-series [Archive] - Turbobricks Forums
That way you get an idea of what you're in for trying to gain an extra 100HP which if you're not aware of it is a lot to pull out of a 2.3L, approx 220 HP engine. It's pretty easy to do with a truck load of money but very, very difficult (impossible) to do on the cheap.

The preferred vendor for ECU tunes in most peoples minds would be ARD.
ARD White
That's going to start out at $200.00

Just so you know, I'm trying to do the same. I'm trying to build a 300+ BHP 850. I've bought a lot of parts and have a few left to do including the ARD tune for about 500 so it's possible, it just isn't cheap but I really like the car and the way it feels. Just wish I would have been able to leave it as the 300 dollar beater it started out to be.

do you really need an extra 100HP?
my R with Na intake and catback is tonnes of fun! and doesn't have more than 100hp from stock...but does need the RIP kit for the IC and a tune definitely wouldn't hurt...

I don't think anyone really needs and extra 100Hp. It's just that we can and it's FUN to pull that extra 100HP out once in a while and leave almost everyone else behind you.

You have a Motronics M4.3. You can run a M4.3 which does come in a T-5R and will raise your HP to 240.
ARD can tune a M4.4 to run in your car which has a much better mapping system and can be fine tuned on a more detailed level.
