I am a first time owner of a Volvo I purchased four months ago for $1500 a 97 850 wagon it currently has 138k miles and the body is not that bad. I had it diganosed and they told be that it now needs a new engine do to a piston or rod, my question is it worth getting a new engine if so how much can I expect to spend and where could I purchase one with warranty, since I have not put much money into to car besides what I paid and two new tires I want to know if its better to get a another car or put the engine in the this one.

850tony, Hi I'm going to have a mechanic I know that would fix it, all I know is that Pep-Boys told me it needs a new engine after having it diagnosed they said the piston or rod went through it when I go back to get the car today I'm going to find out if the rod just needs a new bearing rather than a whole engine the Volvo I have is non-turbo.

is the car drivable? sounds like its not. the way they make is sound is that you broke a rod and it is now bouncing around in there and the piston smashed up into the top of the head.
just taking a really rough estimate your prolly looking around $1500-$2000 for a new installed engine via mechanic. maybe more, maybe less
