Post volvo 94 850T wagon

Hello- I am new to the volvo scene, have had other euros in the recent past. I bought this car recently from a friend (needed the extra room for our daughter) and I have noticed one small issue that has just started. The car runs awesome all the time, no issues at all, just did the fcp groton tune up package and replaced the fuel filter and some hoses that needed it. I noticed that the car will sometimes start weird, it used to fire up right away all the time. The car now sometimes starts fine, other times it spits and sputters for a second and runs awesome. Turn it off fires right up. Come back later and sometimes it starts weird and sometimes it does not. Battery voltage is good (rapid rotation on the starter), hoses look good, and read and fixed the trouble codes and cleared the bank a few months ago. I am a little stumped with this one. The car runs awesome all the time no weird idle or running issues, no current trouble codes. I thought that it may be the nuetral safety switch near the shifter, its an automatic, about $79 new and would rather not replace if not needed. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I recently finished searching the threads in detail about starting issues, but none of the other threads have indicated possibilities.

Welcome to Volvo family.
I have same problem with my 96 850 n/a. Car runs perfectly otherwise (better than ever). It has new plugs, cables, rotor, cap, air filter and clean MAF. Thinking of replacing fuel filter and air intake hose (noticed some cracks).
Any suggestions are welcome, anybody?

try this.

go to start the car. leave it in the on position (with all the lights on) for 5-8 seconds before you start it. does it start just fine then?

hmmm. so its not the fuel pump/fuel filter issue. i thought maybe it was a defective fuel filter with a restriction in it.

anyways. is ur intake/throttle body clean? might want to also clean up the injectors. or maybe a clogged cat, but that would prolly throw a code

Wow, fast response, that is what I like about this forum. Thanks 850tony.
Last night I put Techron injector cleaner in tank.
Could this be caused by cracked air intake hose?
Or worn out Air pump hoses or connectors and couplers on check valve?

yes. if you have a cracked hose that will create a starting issue. replace anything that is cracked.

Default still working on it

Ok- so I have had trouble getting the car started sometimes, always starts, just takes a few attempts once in a while, so I went and had the diagnostics done on the alternator, starter, and battery. Battery is good, alternator/charging sytem is good, starter is getting less than 11.5 volts to it, I am thinking ignition switch or starter solenoid. I checked and cleaned all the cables to the starter and the grounds in the immediate area. Any ideas out there?

Default leaking fpr

I took the vacuum line off the fuel preesure regulator and fuel is spitting out while the car is running. Would this be causing my longer than usual starting issues? Car runs and idles fine, just takes about five to ten seconds to finally start.
