Default volvo newb needs help with tranny failure indicator

ever since I got in to touring car racing I fell in love with the Volvo 850 then when I found out there pretty affordable I had to have one. I bought 1995 850 glt 2.4 N/A about a week ago. the car's been doing great I took on a 100 mile road trip last night. I apologize for my ignorance but the one I bought is fitted with tracs and sport/winter/economy modes so of course being a typical 17 year old I've been kinda playing with it to see what the difference is. I was always worried though that car maybe in winter mode ever since I heard it can destroy the transmission if you drive around casually in it. I don't think it was though. today I drove up town and the low gear indicator came on and began to flash. im wondering if maybe I blowed fuse or something simple by playing with the button cause the car shifts fine.

The thing to look for is whether you have both a check engine light and an upshift lit at the same time. start with the simple and make sure you didn't accidentally leave the rocker switch in W mode. Also see if the shifter's lock out buttons are stuck and wiggle to pop back to normal. the typical problems to look for in these cars are PNP switch/sensor issues which can put the car in "limp mode" or a transmission solenoid (but there I'd expect a check engine light with fault code). A good thing to do is a periodic "shifter row" (P to Lo to P about 20x quickly) to see if you can clean any corrosion/dirt off the PNP contacts. Tracs lights can also be set off by incorrect/mismatched tire sizes, ABS and wheel sensor issues (ie it uses the ABS to measure speed difference between the two front tires to know if you're spinning a wheel - which can happen on a wet road etc. The ABS computers on these cars are known to develop cracks in the solder joints of the circuit board and need a repair from time to time.
