Volvo plugs

Volvo plugs
I have Volvo spark plugs. Does anyone know if the gap is adustable on these? They have three side electrodes instead of the normal one. Also, what is a normal life for these Volvo plugs? I've used mine now for almost two years and I'm not sure how to tell when they're no good anymore because the center electrode sits so close, so flushwith the insulator anyway. ("self-cleaning insulator" it says on the new package)

RE: Volvo plugs
That is interesting, my original genuine Volvo plugs were of single electrode type (made in England).
If the centre electrode is flush with the insulator, that is platinum plug and it should be good for approx 100,000 kms/60,000 miles. They do not require cleaning/re-gapping like conventional copper plugs do. As for gapping, I usually leave them alone if they are platinum/iridium plugs, as they are factory-set. However, some people like to gap them and say that they do notice performance improvement. Does the package say anything about gapping (probably doesn't, otherwise you wouldn't be asking). Should you decide to gap them, pay attention as to not to damage the centre electrode.
