Default Water leak (drivers side)

brand new to these forums,be gentle with me. I'm a vw guy so don't know much about the wifes 850.
we seem to have a water leak on the drivers side of our wagon. I pulled the carpet out and checked around the rear of the center console and it didn't appear to be leaking over from passenger side, which is where the heater core is located. correct? it is wet down by where your left would be and up the side a little bit. I ran out of time and light.the water that was in the carpet seemed like it had a greenish color, but the water under the carpet seemed to be clear. we were a touch low on coolant, but I vacumed out more than what was low in the overflow tank.anyone have a similar problem?

The heater core is on the drivers side like right close to where the gas pedal is. You will see aluminum pipes coming from the firewall in and to a white box. The heater core is in the white box.

I saw the aluminum pipes coming to the white box,it doesn't look like it is leaking from there. it is wetter on the left side. on the piece of foam insulation that runs up the side just under the hood release handle.

The one along the windsheild. It kind of just pulls back but be careful the clips will break.

the trim piece just pulls off correct? I will keep an eye on it the next few days and see if Ican see any leaks. if it is the heater core is there a good guide on replacing it? I looked on IPD and they have the heater core for $150. does that sound about right? I had a water leak in a 1995 GMS S-15 once that I never could find. ended up taking the carpet out. finally traded it in on a Suburban.

Did you check FCPGroton.com yet?

There is a few links on here with the instructions for replacing it.

I just checked FCPGroton.com and they are about $20 cheaper. I think I found a good guide at the link below:

Yes that link is good. Your dash itself looks a little different but the climate box and setup is exactly the same.

it doesn't seem to be the sunroof.I checked the drains and they look clear of obstruction. not sure what it could be. maybe it is the heater core,it just doesn't look like its leaking or have that "sweet" coolant smell. im going to put a couple of white rags down there and see if they turn "green". that should be a tell tale sign of coolant leaking. should't it be wet on passenger side as well if it was the heater core?

Not always maybe the way you park it the car leans more to the drivers side and it runs to there.

good point. didn't think of that. the place she parks the most does lean to the drivers side just a little.

Did you try pouring a glass of water along the garter of the sunroof? If unobstructed, water should disappear quickly.

If the sunroof drains appear unobstructed, keep an eye on the coolant level in the reservoir. If no changes, there may be a slight gap/rupture somewhere along the weather strip. This is not very common, but seems to happen once in a blue moon.

Happy New Year,

JPN

JPN, do you mean open the sunroof and pour the water right in that little channel where the drains are?
