Default Which Water Pump to Get?

fcpgroton offers four different water pumps for th 850 ranging in price from $45to $119. One for $74.81 says it is OEM Aisin and the one for $119 says it's Genuine Volvo. The one for $45 says it's a GMB and the one for $54.86 says it's a Hepu.

I was going to go with the OEM, but if the Genuine Volvo is better I will get that one. I'm already up to about $800 worth of stuff and that's with the 15% discount. Doing Timing Belt, Water Pump, Front Struts and Rear Shocks on my white one. Has over 213K on it and runs fine. Started getting a bunch of thumping fromt the rear and the Shock Mount is bad, real bad.

Think I went with hepu last time, based on feedback around this site; e.g.
https://volvoforums.com/forum/showth...epu+water+pump

If you changing the front strut mounts, make sure you go OEM here!! I learned the hard way...

The Hepu would save me some money. I have not placed the order yet. I don't usually replace the strut mounts. If they look worn when I take them off I will get OEM ones though.

I use XC90 Spring Seats though. Much tougher than the 850 ones. I happen to have a set that I didn't use on the other car when I did it, so I don't need to buy them.

In order to get that warranty it has to be installed by "an ASE certified technician".

MAN I just spent $760 on the car!

First money I really put into it in about four years and 75K miles though. That's not bad at all when you look at it that way.

Went with the Hepu water pump and I am also going to do the brakes. First time I bought anything other than OEM pads in 25 years of owning Volvos. I got the Akebono ceramics. My son has them and say the work good so far. The guy I talked to at fcp said he has them also. I think his name was Jeffrey.

Now that I got the AC working on the yellow car time to give the white one some attention. They are both jealous of the boat which is getting all the attention lately!

Where did you get the XC90 spring seats? The ones at FCP say "Aftermarket"; doesn't even say who the manufacture is?

Do you have a source for these that has OEM XC90 front spring seats?

I see IPD has "heavy duty" ones; wonder if they're just XC90 seats? Kinda pricey?

BTW: Nice boat!!

I got the ones from fcpgroton. Didn't even notice that they were aftermarket. Call them and ask if they have OEM. Not everything they have is on the website.

Before I bought a lot of stuff (about $400 worth) from FCPGroton for my daughter's 850 (timing belt, water pump, head gasket, tuneup) I asked them about why it had to be an ASE certified mechanic when I do ALL the work on my own cars for years now. I do a good job (probably a lot more particular about a lot of things since it is my car) and wondered why I couldn't be just as eligible. This was the response:

"So long as you understand and perform all the proper actions when
doing the job you should be all set. And you must register the job
online as well."

I'm just saying it doesn't hurt to ask. I replied back that I was planning on writing up a tutorial that shows how to do everything I am doing. They said that would be more than sufficient to demonstrate I know what I'm doing. This is just my 2 cents worth, but as with a lot of things in life, it doesn't hurt to ask. I will be through with the whole job Thursday and will register it online, then write the tutorial and post it sometime soon.

Oh, and in line with the original post, I went with the Hepu WP.

Tracy

Just google xc90 spring seats. Have you checked IPD? Emailed FCP and asked for OEM? Swedishautoparts? Eeuroparts? Tasca auto parts?

I have hepu in my car right now but next time I do the timing belt I'm putting in an OEM pump for the peace of mind.

All those places you mentioned sell aftermkt spring seats for XC90. Did take your suggestion though and used google which found this:

================================================== ======
"Yes, XC90 seats are the same size, and will fit your 850.

The main weakness we found in the stock Volvo/Sachs ones is that they use recycled rubber in them. The HD ones we're making use non-recycled "virgin" rubber. Holds together a lot longer than the recycled rubber Sachs ones.

here's the link where i found this:
http://www.turbobricks.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=190673

So I'm going with the IPD HD ones, even though they aren't OEM.

FCP will do OEM if you email them. And TASCA auto parts is not aftermarket, it's OEM.
