Website for recalls

Website for recalls
I called the dealer today to check about any open recalls on my Volvo, and couldn't get an answer for 15 minutes on the phone. I was at work and had to get off the phone. Now they're closed.
Is there an website that I can put in my VIN and get the open recalls? (Service records would be nice too)..

After trying for 4 days, finally I spoke with someone from Manhattan Volvo. He told me Volvo does not have a website that you can check my open recalls, based on your VIN. More bad news -- dealers do not report service history to a central database, so I can't know what work was done at Volvo dealers previously.
According to this dealer I have no open recalls. I am waiting for them to tell me what recalls were performed on my car.
I also tried to register with Volvo, no confirmation yet from their registration service.
This aspect of ownership experience has been very annoying.
Meanwhile if you go to Toyota owner's website, you punch in your Toyota VIN and spills out all recalls, open, or expired, or done (when and where). It also gives you all dealer records (rotate tires, change oil, new alternator, etc. etc.).

That guy from Manhattan Volvo is full of sh@&t!!! After I purchased my 96 TLA three months ago I called Volvo customer care center and gave them my VIN and they found out my heat shield recall was still pending. A week later i took my car to Bridgewater Volvo (NJ) and got it done.
You don't ask dealer what needs get done, you tell them what to do.

BTW, Toyota has to make recall info on their web site because they put out recalls as often as they do oil changes.

Michael Holland (Manhattan Volvo) got back to me later today -- he said the Recall 149 (heatshield bushings next to the Fuel Tank) was done on my car in 2005. I hope to get the dealer's name who did it; maybe that dealer has more records on my car.
I am not a fan of Toyota by any means but it is nice to get all service records as long as the vehicle stepped foot on the dealer's door.
