Weird Sound When Cold
I'll say it started about 3 yrs ago that the car when cold started would sometimes most often in the colder months would make a horrible whine sound of a electric generator. This would be in a higher pitch when accelerating. Therefore very time this happens I can only go 20 mph or 2000 rpm or otherwise would be unbearable to the ears. When the car finely warms up or after a 5 min. drive it would go away. What the heck is it that makes this ruckus? It's between the trans and engine from what I can determine when driving. I'm very much clueless, but since it didn't seem to affect the car any other way I just ignored it, but would like to know the cause.

Mine used to do the same when in the winter when I lived in NY... I figured it had something to do with the Tranny fluid or something, It would go away as soon as the trans was warm.
I have not experienced it in a couple of years cause the temp hasnt dropped below 38 here in miami in a couple of years.
