Default Weird sound

I posted a while ago(2 weeks or so) a noise that the car was making while idle, it is not coming from the engine, its coming from under the car, i think its coming from here(picture), i also recorded the noise with my cellphone, but i cant transfer the recording.

is it a sort of rotating grinding kind of sound or is it a weird electrical kind of sound? AND, is it coming from just after the front wheels?

BAH!....stupid computer...anyhoo!

Weren't you the one who was having some suspenssion issues awhile back? Did you ever replace the rear shocks? Here's what i know

I have a 240 wagon that does the same thing. The problem is the rear suspenssion is REALLY old. Turns out, the lower the rear end gets the closer the front u-joints get to the underboby of my car. In my case, the more road side crap or mud i get lodged up there the worse the sound gets. I just spray water under my car and it eventually clears out. I still have a feint grinding noise though. I suspect the minute i service the rear suspention the noise will go away.

Yes, I did change the rear shocks, but i dont think that the rear shocks were nivomats :O!, but the noise is was not as bad as it is today, i mean you can REALLY hear it, i feel ashamed whenever i stop at a red light, so i should take the car to the volvo dealership to have the rear suspension serviced? or can i take it somewhere else? but the noise is not coming from the back of the car, is coming from the front

Well if its the same problem i'm having you wouldn't hear it at the rear of the car...mine was grinding at the driveshaft conection to the tranny which on a 240 is right after the front wheels. Because the rear of my car was sinking, the front of my drive shaft was angling closer to the under carriage thus bringing the U-joints on that end closer and closer to metal they shouldn't be grinding on.

Did you maybe hit a pot hole or some other kind of road hazzard? Try this...if you have a decent jack, lift up the rear end at the pumpkin (to keep the rear suspention tight) and get up under your car to see if there is something cramed up there. If not, check your U-joints at that end.....if it isn't that, look at the bell housing to see if you have some leakage that shouldn't be there. If it's really that loud it should be outside the engine but you never know.

Either the Cat Converter blew apart and is rattling or the Heat sheild is loose.

Try smacking the converter with a rubber mallet...if you hear stuff bouncing around in the converter the thing is junk if not it is still all togather inside and should be working.

if it does sound like junk you can probally go to a muffler shop and have one ordered if you want the oem replacement if not im sure then can find one that fits...
or get one yourself> http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.as...792&RootID=629

It should be back about 1 Foot from where you took the Picture above.

It might also be the Heat sheild where the pipe turns at the back of the engine. If it is the Heat sheild you can rip it off the Throw in the Garbage.

There is a pipe that comes off the engine. It drops down then turns under the Car. Where the turn is you should see the sheild. It looks like 2 peices welded together. That is the Sheild I speak of.
