what is this: control unit box air intake hoses

what is this: control unit box air intake hoses
I am not sure what this hose supplies air to and searching didnt help any. Mine has deteriorated around the pleates and I would like to know if sucking in hot engine air will affect anything. That way I can possibly fix a problem I currently have and had no idea it was related to this hose...

That is its stated purpose but I would feel better about it if it didn't draw its "Cool" air from behind the radiator.

But also the A/C system cools the ECU's as well.
Look at the firewall you will see a pipe come out of it and go to the bottom of the air box.
That is where it comes from the A/C system.
