Default Stock 850 turbo air box verses Cold air intake?

Hi
I have a guy telling me that if I take a stock 850 turbo air box and replace it with my no turbo air box it is better then a a k&n cold air intake and will also increase my power. I currently have an 850 non-turbo. Is this true?
Thanks

It's an NA. It will be purely cosmetic, you won't gain anything from an intake.

Notice to all N/A owners. The best way to improve the preformance of your N/A car is to replace it with a turbo car.

The angle off of the turbo airbox will be totally wrong for the pipe between the MAF and the throttle body on a N/A. The PCV line will also not fit properly. The same thing applies for going between a N/A and a turbo.

You can do pretty much anything you want to do before the MAF sensor but beyond that you are stuck with the geometry of things to make them hook back up.

The turbo MAF aims back towards the turbo (the firewall) while the N/A cars it comes across more parallel to the block. I suppose you could modify a hose to get there but why?

I don't know if it would but I would think the bottom part of the housing below the filter is the same part number for both applications. I do know that the air filter is the same for turbo and non turbo so the only difference is the top.

Other than drugs I have no idea why anyone would think the stock plastic top of the air cleaner off a turbo would make any improvement to a non turbo. If anything it's just a hassle to try and modify the plumbing to get it hooked up to the throttle body because it's pointed in the wrong direction.

As for the K&N Volvo 850 intake, it's a joke. It's mostly just thin flexible plastic tubing like a dryer duct. The cone filter is the only part of the kit that's quality and you can buy the filter separately and purchase ducting cheaper if you have a little skill to fit it.

I do believe in the K & N box filters. Not so much to imporve preformance but I believe it filters better and a little more air flow will prevent choaking.

I have a K&N on my towncar, bike and pickup. I do like them it's just that the "kit" they offer for an 850 is a joke. Most of their cold air intakes are really great and they are well built. This one is an exception. IMO
