Default What on earth is this?

Pulled my glovebox out to try and find a sending unit for keyless entry in order to buy a new remote. Seems my car doesn't have one. That was odd. What was also odd was finding this part behind the glovebox. Says Volvo on the sticker and the part # that I can make out (6849410) comes up as a speaker however I am not so sure! Anyone seen this before and know what it is?

think I figured it out. speaker magnet. not sure how vital it is. I'll crank the music up later and see if there's any difference.

Yes that is a speaker magnet. Very important to a speaker, like the piston for it. I'm sure it does not work without it. Must be off the dash speaker which project very little sound, you may not miss it.

Uh, yeah, the speaker won't work without it. You can glue it back onto where it's supposed to be and the speaker will work again, I had to do that for my rear deck speaker.

It is most definatly the speaker magnet from the dash tweeter. Most people don't notice when they don't work but I missed mine. You can use super glue to afix the magnet back where it is suposed to be. Check the speaker in the dash on the drivers side, it has likely come off as well. Finally, the speakers in the rear deck, they are a not quite a 6x8 and have a tweeter over top, if yours are like mine the glue failed on the thweeter magnets and they are now preventing the larger cone from doing anything. I re-glued my tweeters back together ut threw out my rear deck speakers (actually kept the shell and cut custom lexan peices to hold aftermarket 5x7's inside those shells). Other than that I added two 10 inch subs in the trunk fed from the pre-amp outs on the fatory radio.

every volvo 850 i have owned has lost the bottom of the speaker magnet. i always end up finding it under the dash someplace, or along the steering column or something.

personally, i just bought a cheep set of like $20-$30 tweeters (with out an enclosure) and installed them into the tweeter mounting.
