Default What is this? Parking break cable?

Hi All,

Just bought a '95 850. This cable was hanging off the back near the rear-right tire.

The parking break light is on the dash all the time. But I did some reading and it can also mean low break fluid.

So I'm guessing it's the parking break cable? Just asking you guys out there to make sure it's not something else more serious.

Thanks!

Have you checked the brake fluid reservoir? Is it low?

BRAKE and PARKING BRAKE have 2 separate lights. Which is lit? 15 Is Brake, 16 is Parking Brake.

It could be a fuel vacuum/vent hose.

That is part of the EVAP system. The line will travel over the fuel pump to a purge valve.

@rspi - my dash is a bit different, but the symbol is in the same place - I think this is the symbol for parking break/break fluid. The 'lambda' letter symbol is for the EVAP system according to my research.

@boxpin - so this is essentially nothing to worry about in terms of safety and performance?

Thanks to both of you!

I'm not familiar with it but it might cause a vacuum leak, so you might want to reattach it or plug it.

Its the line that the fuel tank vents to. The fumes in the tank travel up that line to the front of the car, through the charcoal canister then are strategically fed into the running engine.

Nothing to worry about? Depends, here in California thats a failed smog test and with it disconnected you will be introducing road dirt onto the fittings.

Should be a failed test in Ohio, too. But I discovered several years after I bought my '97 854R that the entire charcoal canister was missing and it never threw a code or light for it. I did end up replacing it.
