What would happen if,,,, flame trap remedy?
I have had to order a new flame trap and oil seperator box for my 97 850. Until the parts come in, what would happen if I left the oil dipstick slightly raised to expel excess pressure? Would this help first off, and would there be any dire consequence like oil blowing out, etc? I already have a leak at the rear main and don't want to make it worse but my wife really wants to drive it.[:@] Would that relieve pressure and slow my rear main leak or at this point does it even matter?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am somewhat OCD about car maintenance and really stress at the idea of driving it a few days and making it worse. Just bought this but did not realize the flame trap system was shot. Flame trap is clean but I am guessing the box is clogged.
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Tech. Thanks for the reply. Did you mean I should pop the dipstick up a tad to give the pressure somewhere to vent or can I just let the wife drive it a couple of days as is? My parts should be here Wednesday or Thursday and I am going to take it into the shop then. Will the seal slow up on leaking once the flame trap is replaced or is that a done deal and going to have to be replaced for sure? I will keep an eye on the oil and make sure it is close to full. Do any of the additives help to expand the seals or is that stuff useless?
Thanks,
Rob

Tech,
Thanks, I will have her drive it that way and get that system fixed. Hopefully the leak will slow or stop but I have my doubts. Knowing the oil box is clear will go a long way to give me peace of mind. Then I will tackle the rear seal. I had some luck on a 740 turbo I had by taking it to a tranny shop. They dropped the tranny and put my seal in for $200. Wish I could find a deal like that but these front drives are a bear and they know it. [:@]
Thanks for you help and support,

That might work Like I have said before check the small vaccum lines they might be colgged and thats it.
If the one Elbow on the end of the intake is Broke and Leaking then let me know and I will tell you a good way to bypass it and run a shorter setup.
