When to change engine timing belt and pulleys
there is 55000 miles with something on my 1995 T 5 wagon and i changed the belt on the engine.
but than someone told me that, pulleys also have to be changed with the belt.
what should i do, or when it is recommended to change pulleys on the 2.3 turbo engines.
thank you

dont think is a set interval for the pulleys and rollers.
most around here do the puleys, rollers, etc every belt change.
More for peace of mind.
do a search for timing belts here and you should find HEAPS of info to guide your answer.
Me, 180,000 klms and i did all rollers, timing and serp belt, and water pump.
So much quieter now..

My rule of thumb is that I change all of the pulleys, the tensioner, and the water pump on every other timing belt change. You should be good to go until your next belt change unless you continue to put the very low mileage on the car and then you might be able to stretch it to your 3rd belt change. The service interval for the belt is 7 years or 70,000 miles.

so, if the service interval for the belt is 70000 miles and i have changed it on 55000, can i wait till my car does 70000 to change the pulleys (sorry for the stupid question)

You can, since you will be on the next interval, but remember that one never knows when those parts might fail. I change out water pump, tensioner and pulleys whenever I do the T-belt for piece of mind, but I also live in an extreme climate zone where in the summer it's usually almost 100 degrees! So I figure factoring operating temperature and also ambient temp. are both factors of stress on those parts. Plus, one the t-belt is taken out, you are already there! Why not change them. But as ShaginWagon has pointed out, it is also a piece of mind thing for some of us!....Reguardless of what, just keep up a "Schedule" for your self from whenever you did yours last and you should be ok...

Some people never change the water pump. I talked to the parts guy at the Volvo Dealership the other day. He knows me by name for some reason, and he said they hardly ever replace them in the shop. The independent service shop I go to says the same thing. I have been driving Volvo's for over 15 years now and never replaced a water pump. When I do the 210K change I will do it then though just for piece of mind. Never got quite that far yet on any of them though. 206K was the farthest I ever got. Have 195K on the white one now.
thanks guys.
Somthngfrce, the reason i did not change the pulleys is that, we do not have here official Volvo dealer, nor high quality Volvo parts in my country, so if there is not extreme need to order it abroad, i am trying to get along with the old parts.
