Default Whine from rear... fuel pump about to go out?

Hi'a. Today, for the first time in over a year of owning my 1994 850 turbo wagon, I noticed a new sound. A low, but constant whine coming from the rear end at idle and while driving. My first thought what that the fuel pump is about to die. I wonder if I wonder correctly and if so, how to test the thing to be sure. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The pump may be whining but that does not mean it is about to go. I have seen cars start whining and last for years. But it could still be going.

I agree, I have seen a couple that have whined forever and still work. Could it be some type of exhaust resonance?

Thanks guys. I'm no car expert but I'm nearly sure it is coming from the area of the fuel tank and not the exhaust. I was wondering (again) if I decide to go ahead and replace the fuel pump is there any big advantage to buying an expensive pump? I'm not into racing around town but if it would be really nice for that occasional burst of speed I might be interested. I'm not even sure what the high performance pumps do that the OEM pumps don't. Waste more gas?

I would stick with the OEM setup.

Default Same

I have the exact same sympthoms on my volvo 850 T 96, a loud whine sound coming from the fuel tank, but my car keeps going just fine. Where can I buy an OEM fuel pump ? I found one made by Walbro, but It needs some sort of work before installing it. Which one should I get ?.

go oem unless you are doing some type of special setup that requires a larger pump. FCP should have the pump.

as far as the whine goes, some cars just do that. the all of the early to mid 90 GM's whined right off the lot, they tryed to correct it by stuffing foam around it haha.
