Yellow t-5r rarity by numbers
Anybody know of the actual rarity of the yellow 95 t-5r? I haven't been on here in a long time, and since have aquired one - the salesman did absolutely nothing for me as far as selling me the car, I wanted it the second I seen it. However, he said something I don't totally believe, and have been trying to look for actual numbers every since.
What is the actual production numbers? How many were sent to the states (besides private shipments)? Is there anyway to find out how many of them are on the road still in the U.S., perhaps with a national auto registry?
This guy was saying theres less than 50 on the road still today, giving an average of 1 yellow t-5r for every 1.2 states. I think its total b.s., but he did make me curious as to what the actual numbers are.

Hello Flamejet,
I remember a while ago someone actually posted a statistics photo on the number of yellow T-5, T-5R or Rs exported to several countries. But it was a few months ago and I don't know where the thread could be.
There is a gentleman by the name of "JimKW". I consider Jim as Ph.D in Volvo 850s, and Jim could give you better answer than any of us here combined.
Cheers,
JPN

RE: yellow t-5r rarity by numbers
Strange, there were more yellows exported to Japan and I have not seen any. There's a red one at Narita Airport's cargo area, but it's not T5 or T5-R.
Cars are often stolen in Japan and they are usually headed to Russi@, so that may be where all the yellows are[8D]. But they usually target Toyota, though.
There are 2 Volvo dealers near where I live, and I went to both of them and got all brochures they had. Also, one of them had factory-recommended (?) mod parts on display (forgot the mfg name), such as coil springs, struts, sway bars, wheels, brakes, etc as well as mug cup, key chain, clock, etc... I thought I would have a fit.

I just did used car search at Volvo's Japanese web site and was astonished.
A yellow T5-R with some 30,000 miles: approx US $14,000!!!
Generally speaking, used cars lose value very quickly in Japan, but Volvo seems to be the only exception.
I can see Jim shaking his head.

P.S: I'm happy with the following 3 machines I own at the moment, and couldn't afford another machine.

RE: yellow t-5r rarity by numbers
I don't know how accurate his numbers are, and they sound tinged with a tad of salesmanship. Good for him, he's doing his job...ha. I recently bought two: one really nice and in near-pristine condition, and one race-tuned, prepped for painting, which was actually wrecked in CA before I bought it from a guy in OH. Of course, I had looked for while, gave up, and then two popped up at the same time. That's how things work. Anyway, even the pristine one is not all original, with paintwork on the hood and right front quarter panel, and AM wheels. The prev. ownertried to match them as best as he could, but they are $2000.00 japanese wheels and have a profile I do not like. The race tuned one's wheels were replaced with regular Turbo wheels painted Alcantara gray. They look much nicer. I do believe thatoriginal, babied, garage kept yellow T5-r's are a rarity, as since there were so few sent to the states, many of them have gotten in the hands of the young, street racing crowd, with their reckless disregard for property that has often been given to them by mom and dad. Okay, I'm a gen x-er, so I shouldn't make that generalization. Mine are both legit, with serial numbers that match and have the sought after 58 rather than 57 (a sure sign of a counterfeit T5-r). I too however, would like to know what production numbers mine are. Did you get any info on how to find this out? My dad has # 218 of 300 Mustang Cobra R's produced in 2000, and it's printed on the car somewhere. I'm sure there is a way to trace the vin and find out. Let me know if you have any info. oh yeah, I'm pretty sure I have the only 2 yellow t5-R's in VA. That's according to the VCOA VA chapter. Maybe I'll see if they can guide me on the production numbers.

RE: yellow t-5r rarity by numbers
Wow, everyone seems to think I'm a guy. I had a DMV friend run a database search based on the year, make, and body style (4d). We then narrowed it further bythe 58 vin code and the color yellow (required now on all title apps due to child abductions), and we found none but mine. Man, that's the DMV for you, missing those 3 other yellows. So, assuming you're telling the truth and the DMV truly is more screwed up than we alreadyknow they are,the laws of statistic probability would suggest that if there are at least5 of them in Virginia, and quite a few more known to be in California(BTW there are by most accounts only about 100 non-counterfeit ones estimated to still beon the road), that means we may very well lead the nation per capita in yellow T5-R's. We should call Ripley's! Or solicit thegovernor for recognition.Maybe then all four of us can be special enough. Hope it doesn't spark a surge of people painting their plain old 850's yellow and dressing them up with the necessary trim and logos to fool the folks who don't have a chance to peek inside. Oh that's right, that onlyhappens in Florida, not Virginia. Thank goodness, cause I think we may really have something going here for ourselves.

RE: yellow t-5r rarity by numbers
I have mine and know of atleast 3 other ones just in the Orlando area. Thats not including the rest of Florida.
The guy I work/worked with has one. Another guy I worked with at the Dealer when I was there has one. There is a guy that drives by the Dealer where the wife works everyday with one as well. So that's 4 just in Orlando.
I think there is a few in South Florida as well.

Here's a response i got from volvo last year when i was looking into the rarity of the t5r wagons...
Thank you for contacting Volvo and we apologize for the delay as we investigated your request.
Our research shows there were approximately 146 850T-5R wagons built for the United States.
