Default 2013 C30 Sensor Identification

Hello All,

Just have a quick question about my car. I wanted to install a dash cam onto my windshield, sort of behind the rear view mirror. However, on the passenger side, back of the mirror, there is what looks to be a light sensor. There was nothing specific in the owner's manual and I even called the local Volvo dealer here and talked with the service department. I was told that it is a forward collision avoidance camera for my "city safety system". I know that this isn't right not only because it is clearly not a camera, but the car isn't equipped with collision avoidance. The sensor in question is about 1/2" X 1/2" and is white. I tried to provide a picture in an earlier post, but being a new member and adding photos apparently delays the posting process.

So in short, this is all a two part question.
1.) What is the sensor on the backside of the rear view mirror.
2.) If a dash camera is installed, will it disrupt the sensor in any way?

Thanks for any help I can get.

you can add your pics to a post at any time - but as noted, sometimes the platform requires moderator review/approve for content with links/attachments/pictures. The moderators simply need to approve. Add you pics when ready. As to your question - the city safety system uses LIDAR technology not a camera. I curious if you are seeing a sensor for the automated braking or the light sensor for the auto-dimming mirror.

Here's a picture of the sensor. It's on the backside of the mirror, facing forward. Again, as far as I know, the car is not equipped with any sort of collision avoidance. It really just looks like a light sensor of some sort. Maybe for the headlights?
