New Engine Compatibility Help
Hi there, for the past couple of months I've owned a 1.8L Volvo C30 (EC: B4184S11) (R design if that contributes to anything).
Today I slapped it through an MOT 30 days early, just to give me some time to fix the array of issues I know it has. I've only turnt 19, still in college - and with the whole insurance thing being astronomical and me wanting a nice second car I took a big bite out of a bullet and purchased this C30 for £900, and for good reason .
The engine valve seals or piston rings are non existent, I've averaged 4L of oil a month, and I force everyone behind me to turn their fogs on.
That being said, the MOT failed purely on it smoking out the test center - my mechanic was impressed.
Now I have a couple of weeks to throw an engine in, its done 160k and I'm sure it would cost the same amount to swap it out with a lower mileage one that doesn't **** oil, than to change seals. My mechanic said he would do the engine swap for £200, since my family have known him for donkey years.
I've done my research a little bit but would love some guidance from someone who will have knowledge on this.
Finally the main question.
So I know Ford, Volvo and a few other car brands share the same engine.
I have found a 1.8L 2005 Ford Mondeo MK3 engine (Code: CHBA). I've had a gander at the one in my engine bay and the Ford one and cannot find any discrepancies, apart from the coil pack looking different.
Since they are all variations of Mazda's L engine, I would like some guidance if this would fit, - or any other types of engine that would do.
Finding the original B4184S11 engine can be done, but their other brand counterparts are ridiculously cheaper.
And no I would like to keep this car running, I do not want to get rid of it, whats the point in paying an extra £600 on my insurance for swapping my vehicle to a 1.25L Ford Fiesta?
Thank you!
