Hi all, I've got a 2008 2.4L automatic, that's giving me an issue and can't pinpoint the problem. I figure it's time to check with the experts!

It's been going into limp mode for about the past month (4-5 times now), and getting the 'transmission service urgent' on screen. My mechanic was really quick to say the transmission should be replaced or rebuilt, saying it was likely internal BUT he didn't actually look inside. He did check the connections etc. and nothing was obvious

The car runs and drives perfectly (well with the exception of the whole limp mode thing), no noises, no slipping, shifts great. Except again this evening....limp mode. I've noticed every time, it's been during warmer weather, and this evening, it actually smelled warm. I pulled over, shut the car off, restarted after about 10 minutes and all was back to normal as usual.

Is is possible for the transmission to overheat? Has anyone had a similar issue? or have any suggestions on what to check or try? I honestly don't believe the transmission needs to be replaced when it runs so well. Thanks for any feedback!
