I’m looking for advice on an injector issue. Last week I drove my sons car on a long drive. Half way to my destination the car suddenly lost power. When I pulled into a lay-by I found the car shuddering when it was idling over. When I tried to drive the rest of the journey I found I couldn’t go over 50 in fifth gear and it shuddered all the way up through the gears.
I got it to a garage and a diagnostic showed that the injector on cylinder 4 is needing replaced.
I have a few lights on the dashboard and I’m wondering if this is the only fault. I have the engine management light and the anti skid service light.
The guy at the garage said the injector replacement will sort all the other faults as the engine is not performing and causing the rest to act up.
There can certainly be injector codes - but it is rare that an injector is bad. Other possibilities than a bad injector are wiring (short or open circuit) or poor connection problems. I would swap the injector to another position to see if the code/missfire changed to the new cylinder to verify the part was actually bad, since it's not often you find a bad injector. I would not suspect a missfire/possible bad injector to set a antiskid system code - but anything is possible.
Thanks for the reply. They are saying they need to call volvo to see if they need to code the injector or just are able to buy one off the shelf and fit this. I’m just worried it might be pricy and the car is old. It’s always been a good runner.

Are you sure this shop knows what they are doing? An Injector is plug and play - and if reasonable I would test the old one in a different cylinder BEFORE purchasing a replacement to make sure the new part will actually fix something.
In the parts catalog if a part needs "coding" or a software download there is "SW" in a box on the page - so no software download needed for any parts on that page.
anti-skid faults are not associated with the engine. possible causes are a wonky wheel speed sensor, steering angle sensor or ABS controller related issues. If you haven't seen an ABS warning light come on, I'd probably start with looking into the steering angle sensor. Best to have a shop with a VIDA system do a full diagnostic so as to interpret proprietary codes (particularly from the ABS computer) and check for additional data points to get a proper diagnosis.
You can also easily test the wiring to the injector with a "noid" light, It's a $10 tool that plugs into the injector wiring to see if the injector is getting a signal.

Hi I have had the exact same issue. My anti skid abs service required light is on and my injectors have died. I went to Volvo and had all 4 injectors replaced and coded on my 2011 Volvo C30 Drive 1.6d. The Anti Skid light is still on(the injectors were not the cause). I have now scanned the codes and found this is due to an open circuit fault on the rear ABS sensor. I have replaced the sensor and the issue has persisted, I have also swapped the sensors around and the fault is still present. All codes have been cleared and it is a hard fault.
I have used a multimeter and found that the left side has no voltage or resistance although the right side is reading 12.5 volts and 8k resistance(to the module) when car is switched off. Both sensors are reading 5k resistance. I have spoken to Volvo and they have said their first course of action would be replacing the module for $1000+
Can anyone help? Do I need to send the module away for a rebuild? or is there an issue with the wiring?
Thanks
