2000 C70 Convertible Recalibration
I recently purchased a 2000 C70 soft top convertible with 84k miles. I was able to open and close the convertible with few problems for about a month. Gradually the open/close process started getting hinky with the top getting stuck at one stage or another. Finally I was unable to close the top at all -- the rear window section stayed up and the hard cover remained in the open position.
I brought it to the local Volvo dealer and was told that the used car lot I had purchased it from had recently had the car in to recalibrate the top. The service manager said told me "these older models develop these problems and most Volvo shops won't even touch them. "he went on to say that they had taken several hours to get the top recalibrated the last time it was in and that to fix it properly I would have to sink about $2K in it to replace the motors.
They were able to get the top to close but sent me on my way with the advice not to open and close sparingly or NOT AT ALL!
So, now I have a convertible that won't convert.
Anybody out there had problems like this?
(Oh, yeah, shortly after that the Electronic Throttle System failed and had to be replaced to the tune of $1,200. Missed the extended warrenty by 6 months.)
I went from loving my Volvo to wishing I had never bought it.

Convertible recalibration
I've owned 2001 since new and the roof failed this year. It's not worth it to me to get it fixed but I had the warning chime a constant irritant until I found:
