2002 C70 engine locked up today
Hi everyone, I'm helping my younger brother get his new (to him) 2002 Volvo C70 working. We bought it non running, found the engine locked. So we put oil in the cylinders, let it sit, and then after a day, found the engine had freed up. So we started it up, and it sounded like this...
He shut it off right after I stopped recording. Then we went to get an OBD II scanner to look for any codes. No codes showed up.
The next time he started it, it was more difficult to start, it made the same noise, then it locked up again.
He said that the coolant light was on, then the oil pressure light flickered and right after that the engine seized. I have found a couple cases like this in a google search, but no cause. Also the timing belt was splattering oil everywhere. Does anybody know what is wrong. We are not going to try turning it again until we've gone through it. Thanks guys, Michael.

Did you check the crank-cam timing before you started it?
Honestly, that sounds like a very sick motor. The splattering oil is probably the least of your worries.
Shot in the dark. The clogged PCV system blew out a cam seal and the PO then ran it out of oil causing the motor to seize with damage to the cylinder head and crank and connecting rod bearings.
