I drove to Santa Barbara in the rain last week and as I was driving through the major road construction I was unaware of the poor drainage and went through a large puddle, causing my car to slightly hydroplane. I managed to get home safely, parked my car and went inside. About two hours later I had to go out and as I was backing out of the driveway, my car started beeping loudly and giving me the error message "top malfunction." This startled me because I had not used the top at all that day. Anyway, I read all the information I could find about this and pulled into the garage. I pushed down on the button for 5 seconds and the back lid went up and the top unlocked but nothing else happened. I pulled on in the button and the lid went down but I did not hear the top latch like usual. Turned the car off and the truck would not open. I repeated what I wrote above and tried it again and still I get warning but now the trunk lid will not go down and I don't even hear the motor to the top trying to do anything. It's completely silent.

I don't know what to do! My local mechanic won't work on it and the dealership isnt available for two weeks or more. I dont even know if they will work on it since I can't get a real person on the phone.

My question is this: could water have gotten in the area the motor for the top hydraulics is in and caused damage?

Does anyone know how to get that back cover down manually?
