Trunk won't open on my 2008 Volvo S40?
It has about 160,000 miles on it and this is the first time I've notice this issue. Tried unlocking the trunk like normal today and it won't open. When I put my hand on the button to unleash the trunk, I can tell it makes a little sound but it won't open. Everything else is fine when I unlock and lock the car...no issues. I crawled inside the trunk and nothing is stuck, I noticed there is an emergency pull cord but I didn't want to pull it to see if it would work for fear that I would mess something up. I didn't knot if there was another manual way to open it besides pulling the emergency cord because I'm again not sure what that will do plus was hoping there would be an easier way to open it until fixed.
Can anyone help me? Please note, I am not a car guy or mechanical so if it involves tearing something down that is pretty sophisticated I would rather my independent mechanic handle it...hopefully it's not too pricey to fix whatever it is.
Thank you.

There is a very long thread already covering this so you may be in luck. let me see if I can find the link. Basically it's a pinched wire most of the time. Sometimes it's a mechanical failure though.
Thank you so much for your response and help but unfortunately I'm still a little lost after reading through that thread....again I'm not much of a car guy or a mechanic type and there seems to be different suggestions on what to do...all of which seem advanced for my level. Any other suggestions or things I can try? Or am I stuck trying to get this fixed with my local European car mechanic? So frustrated.
Basically the thread tells you to check for a broken wire in the wiring harness. Probably best to take it to a mechanic that can either find the break or isolate the failure to the trunk locking mechanism.
