Exclamation 98 volvo c70 gasoline consumption excessive - HELP

Hi,

My c70 does about 14mpg which is way to low with manufacture specs. Had the car for 2 years or so and notice that mpg started dropping- info as follow:
1) Car has only 105k and recently had "check engine" - oxygen sensor failure p0133 error code which was replaced and fixed.
2) I'm using "unleaded" fuel would this be the problem?
3) oil change every 3k w/ air filter
4) tire pressure w/ alignment is perfect
5) tried to use that gas improvement liquids but without luck

Do I need any tuneup or what else this could be? I've started to look for some alternatives such as "TORNADO AIR TORNADO PERFORMANCE BOOSTER" and others to see if this helps.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,
dk

Standard fuel these days is "unleaded"
Additives are usually crap. The tornado is a pos crap scam. If these things really increased gas milage that much, the automakers themselves would implement it in to the stock design.

It sounds to me like you have a stuck brake caliper. Happened to me last year at that exact milage. The drivers side front boot shrivled up and the piston rusted where it would not release fully. I got way worse gas milage.

I would start by applying your brakes hard, then jack up car. You should be able to turn wheels freely by hand.

I'm assuming if you didn't have spark in all cylinders or compression, it would throw an engine code.

What does exhaust smell like? Is it rich or normal? 14mpg is some sort of mechanical issue. I don't think i know of any sensor that can cut your gas milage in half when not functioning.

Does the car sound like it is running normal?

Clean MAF? Dump computer? Exhaust pipe end black or dark grey? Plugs good? Plug wires?

1)Thanks in advance for your quick response and sorry for long delay BUT holidays (you know ).. funny part is that i have recently changed my breakes with pads and rotors and one of my wheels(rear left) was hard to turn....

2)as I mentioned before i had oxygen sensor error p1033(front) which was replaced but engine light turned on again after x miles?!?! should I do full tuneup or what? - if yes please let me know what to change i.e sparks, sparks wire etc...

Please advice,
dk

I would still check mechanical issues... even if you had a bad o2 sensor or MAF, these should only effect your gas milage by about 5mpg MAX, not 13mpg! YOu should be getting 27-28mpg if you drive it gently. If you drive easy on 55 mph roads, you can achieve 30mpg!

Do some investigation on why your wheel is turning hard, you may need to replace that caliper. It is a cheap fix.
