Default C70 Horror Stories... Got any ? Would you buy another one ?

I actually just purchased a 2000 C70, and I've always liked the car cause it looks fantastic, and from what I've heard about Volvos, they're great cars.
I know that all makes, and models have their own little issues, so just because there's a couple things that are notorious for screwing up on these cars, doesn't really make it a bad car.... Or does it?

I'd love to hear comments, Good, and Bad. Thanks

Pics are cool too if you're proud of your ride..

Still like the car, but I find myself wanting something newer. Too many nice cars to keep buying the same one.

Bought mine with 62K miles and after market 36000 mile warrenty. It was an aftermarket warrenty company that would pay my Volvo dealership for parts and repairs. So every time I went for an oil change while I lived in Chi for warrenty period, dealership would go over that car with a magnifying glass and fix ANYTHING they could find. It had 5-6K dollars worth of repairs in 36k miles. They basically replaced everything on front end suspension and stearing except shocks. Stearing box, ball joints, tie rods, the whole 9 yards. Replace motor mounts, turbo seals, exhaust manifold gasket, both o2 sensors, fuel econ selector switch on dash, and a few other things I am sure I am forgetting (it has been a while). Did it need all that work? I doubt it but Volvo made a killing off that warrenty company and I got lots of new parts. Warrenty is up now and I do my own work so I havn't done anything except new timing belt, water pump, and replaced a vaccume line with a hole in it during the last 20k miles. I find it to be a reliable car.

i bought mine from a buy here/pay here and it wasen't my first choice or 4th choice. ended up buying it and i liked it at first til i did a carfax and found 2 major accidents during it's life as a lease vehicle. so now i know why the car had so many issues. i have basically pulled this car out of the grave for which it had 3 wheel in. now i have issues i don't have the experience to fix and i've been a mechanic for 14 years. parts are expensive, things just break on the car, it's underpowered and no mater what you do to it, it will never be a sports car, but damn it does look good. i fi could go back in time i would have bought something else that i could make a weapon on the street and go to auto zone to get parts if need be. my C70 is for sale for $3900 or trade a 99 dodge neon R/T coupe + $2900 or a TIG welder.

Own 2008 C70 - got a great deal in March 09 as the dealer really wanted to move the car. It's been flawless other than one warranty repair to fix the alarm system. Was somewhat disappointed in OE tires - Pirellis lasted about 16k miles and the noise was horrible. Replaced with Kumho and was somewhat apprehensive having never owned the brand, but they are quiet and handle very well. This is my first hardtop convertible and it's a great concept. The ususal ragtop issues with noise and shake are well controlled. For the past 25 years I've owned a daily driver and sports car for weekend trips and driving enjoyment. After driving the C70 on weekends only for the fist year, I sold the daily driver and have found the C70 well suited for daily use. Now approaching 19k miles and plan to buy another C70 once this one hits 50k miles.

My experience with them has been this: don't buy a 1st gen. The tops are terrible as are the windows. So, basically the only thing that people buy this car for sucks. We charge extra to do window regulators in them because they are such a pain in the ***.
Otherwise, the car is a rattley s70, which despite its faults makes it a decent vehicle. If you don't work on them yourself, don't buy one- you will get raped on repairs.

Our C70 convertible hardtop is a year old now. Absolutely LOVE the car!!!

If we continue to have no major issues I will definitely purchase another one in a few years.

I bought C70 new. My experience is the '06 first generation hardtop is a disaster. When I was looking for cars there were many '06 models with low miles available for sale (Ebay, etc) which tells me people wanted to unload them. The 2007 was much better and they did some refinements on the top but I have had some problems. I would strongly recommend extended warranty mainly due to all the cylinders on the top. Early on I had problem with cylinder that would connect the top to windshield. The alarm (gets louder and faster as you drive) makes it virtually impossible to drive when this happens. It took 3 dealers and Volvo tech rep and a few weeks to get corrected. 3-1/2 yrs and 100k miles later I recently have had 2 cylinders in the convertible go bad (possibly leak). It cost me about $700 for each of these cylinders to be replaced.
My Volvo has ivory seats and I have gotten some discoloring (not dirt) in the leather. The dealer replaced the back seats under warranty and my front seats did the same. The dealer wouldn't replace this time but fortunately I had purchased a interior/exterior warranty and I had them cleaned and refinished. It seemed that the Volvo manufacturer did some wier treatment to my leather seats.
All in all I like the car, mainly because I have top down alot. There are some things I don't like about design but I would have been happy with just about any hard top convertible. The only mistake I made was going with upgraded sound system, it would be sweet with the top down. One thing I can say is I am sure that I sequence my top down/up more than the average guy taking advantage of the many nice days down here in the Carolinas. I suspect most buyers of C70 would not have as many cylinder problems as I have had. If I were a possible buyer of a C70 I would go no older than 2008 and definately would get the extended warranty for as many years that I planned to own the vehicle.

I never thought I'd own a Volvo and came in to my 2003 C70 convertible by chance, I've had it now 3 months and i love it, it's only the 2.0T but once it had been remapped it goes very well.

No horror stories it has been as good as gold.

Here's some pics and a step by step of the transformation from standard when i got it to now (not yet finished) in 3 months.

Man, I would have never guessed that you did not like your C70. You have the best pride of ownership that I have ever seen and you don't like the car? I'm confused. You also mentioned that it's under powered, but I noticed that it is turbo so I really don't understand that. I'm lost but hope you get it sold. I assume you got the car fax after you purchased it.
