Default The C70 transformation begins!

After owning my C70 now for over (2) years, I've recently started to add some modifications. Although not much at the moment, it's a start! Here's the breakdown.

SunTek window tint- 18% @ rear window & sides, 35% @ front side windows

17x8 MSW wheels w/ 225/45 Yokohama tires
and a
EuroSport Tuning black mesh grill

In the future, I would like to lower the car a couple inches and start modifying the engine somewhat (performance chip, intake, exhaust, etc...) Maybe, a few more body accessories.

What are people's thoughts, opinions, likes, dislikes- feel free to comment on what you would do instead.

hey buddy
that looks really cool, I would agree with the lowering of the car, what did you do for the air filter, I know eurosport has some pretty cool performance filter, also try putting a strut bar, this will give you more stability and make the cara little rigid

Like the tint and the grill. With a silver car I would have stayed with a silver wheel. Black doesn't do anything for me. Just my opinion. Not saying it looks bad, because it doesn't. Just saying that I like the silver wheels better. Keep us updated on your mods, and we love pictures.

I agree with jks. Your original wheels looked better. Perhaps if you had a red or white c70 the black wheels would look good but a silver auto needs silver wheels. However............this is your auto and you should "do your own thing". As to lowering.............now that you have 17 inch wheels be careful re: clearance on a full turn. Don't go too low.

How far is too low?

The lowering kits I've found only allow for a 0.8" drop or I can spend a couple grand for a 2" drop. I was thinking I need at least an inch and a half. Does anyone know the pros and cons of just cutting the stock springs myself?

Yeah, the black wheels weren't my first choice, but what good is another Volvo w/ silver wheels. And, they're not just black wheels they're black wheels w/ a red stripe.

Here's the deal..............lowering 2 inches is going to play havoc with the alignment of a front wheel drive auto. Secondly simply cutting the springs (not a good idea) with out changing out shocks can lead to the "original" shocks bottoming out. Not a good deal. I also question the tyre clearance issue with a plus one set up and 8 inch wheels. Were the 17 inch wheels you removed 8 inches wide? You only have so much room in the wheel wells (especially the fronts) and a wider wheel in a lowered wheel well may well have some mondo clearance issues.

Yea, I've had the wheels for a week now and I'd think I'd made the wrong decision. I get excited sometimes and make irrational decisions. I'll admit it. I'm OK with the black wheels. It's the red stripe that bothers me. The car just doesn't say Volvo. I'm thinking about painting the red stripe silver or some kind of chrome trim.

I took the headlight wipers off this morning and what a pain in the *** that is. Too many steps to remove those little things. And with the all the hoses, wires and the radiator in the way, they don't pull out very easily. Now, I just need to find the caps to cover the holes.

As for the suspension, I'm debating between the IPD springs and Eibach springs. Struts will be at a much later date. IPD springs will be slightly lower, but Eibach springs will handle much better. Decisions. Decisions. I'll be ordering these in the next week.

Thanks for your responses.

Good idea re: springs. Volvo springs (factory) are progressively wound and by simply cutting the coils will truly throw the entire compression of the springs off. Eibach are one of the recognized leaders in European springs. I would contact your dealer however to check to see if it is a smart thing to do..............ie: install springs alone without the corresponding shocks/struts. Lastly re: your wheels. If you like black then keep them. It is only yourself that you need to please and no one else!

I have to agree with jks2 on the wheels- The silver wheels look good on your color C70.
Everything else looks good.

No offense, but I think it looks cheap...

Here's an example of what different color tint can do. This a picture of a C70 my cousin is currently working on. Bad photo I know, but it's just an example...
