Default Catalytic Converter Question

2000 Volvo c70 (stock)

My cat is bad and was wondering if it is safe to remove it and replace it with a straight pipe? Are the sensors located in the cat or before and/or after?

I have no emissions laws where I am from so I was wanting to take it off completely because of the price of a new converter...

Run a test pipe if you have no E-laws
There is a sensor after or inside the cat, But you can remove it and I know that you can get a "dummy" sensor to confuse the ECU. I know it works on some cars, but never done it on a Volvo.

lemme give you some info on these things and then you can choose your course of action.

the first O2 sensor is screwed into the CAT at the very top, thats why you don't see it.

what i would do is just get a free flowing CAT from magnaflow or something, it's almost like having a K&N filter on your exhaust yet it still cleans the air. do your part for the environment and lets not make any retarded kids with exhaust fumes.

in this time we live in CATs don't hurt the performance anymore and your car may run worst without it. the second O2 after the CAT monitors catylist effeciency and you'll keep a CEL on if there is no CAT on there. i don't trust these O2s that lie to the computer in your car cause hey can they lie in every climate and situation you may put your car though? i don't think they are that smart

The Eater is 100% correct! The modern engine truly loses efficiency when the unit is removed. The Volvo unit is costly but as Eater states, the aftermarket units will work just fine. One last point re: the retarded kids..........it's too late for Eater..........he joined the Marines and his brain is fried! Go Army!
