Default FACTORY SUB-WOOFER OPTION???

i spoke with Tech last weekend and somehow we were talking aboutthe sound system. he said that the c70 has an option that gives you 2 subs behind the seats and there are holes back there, and a switch to cut the bass next to the rear 12v outlet.

does anyone have any info on this option?

how big are the subs?

do you have to have the sc-901 head unit to use the option?

thanks in advance

If you have it it will be in the back part of the console just in front of the rear seat.

next to the rear 12v outlet. if you don't have a switch, there will be a plastic delete plug in there.

ok, for everyone that was as curious as me with this whole subwoofer option, i'm gonna give you what i think this is.

me and Tech looked in our VADAS for the C70 coupe and what i think i'm looking at what the configuration would be as if it was a convertable. to confirm this i would need someone with a convertable to remove the rear seat back and see if there are 2 subs behind them and in the quarter panels in the rear. there is also acrossover of some sort for them aswell.

i have a coupe and with the rear seats removed and quarter panels, i have all the holes for the speakers to go in, but no holes are drilled to mount anything.

i think a sweet upgrade would be install the rear part of the sound system from a convertable into the coupe, some fancy wiring would be required to make it work, maybe even a 3rd amp. too bad for the convertables cause they can't add anything more since they don't have a rear deck to mount more speakers.

I have had the same thought years ago when I first saw the speaker spots behind the interior quarter panels. After a few seconds I realized it would be lame. The rear sound stage would OVER power the fronts. If you wanted to just use those spots and the additional sub spots behind the seat for bass you could do that, but the output would be too much for a stock system too still sound good.

well you could do 2 things.

1 - put some subs in and tune the system for mid - high sounds. that way you'll get great bass no matter what and still have that clairity of the highs.

2- use the spare openings for mid-bass speakers that will only add to the thump and still project some highs.

i dunno, with either option you would have to add some kind of electronic crossover to manage the different stagings in the car.

i have the system in my 2000 c70.
Has 2 subwoofers are bolted behind the rear seats.
Pull the bottoms out, unbolt the corners, and rotate the seat back up.

The amps in the ragtop are located in the left rear quarterpanel just forward of where the antenna retracts. Wiring goes under the box that holds the stowed top to the speakers.

There is an led lighted button on the back of the console to disconnect them. Likely just cut power to the subwoofer amps.

Sounds blew chow. I could hear no bass. The fuses for the subwoofer amps were fine, but the speakers barely working. The 370w infinity sysem in my Jeep blew it away.
Something must be wrong....

Got it in the shop. The tech says it looks like the crossovers are toast as they can bypass them and the subs come alive. Let you know the difference the subs make when I get it back from the shop.

Make it reliable. Looks and toys come after. Otherwise just dump it.
