hi all, auto electician came out to car today and read codes p1171 and 1174 he reset the light and charged me 20 quid(not bad really)he told me it was something to do with the exhaust and its nothing to worry about really but 2 hours after the light was back on and the power had decreased badly like it was hesitating on acceleration it feels like its struggling to breathe or something so i beat the exhaust up with a rubber hammer in hope that might loosen something and fix the problem but obviously hitting stuff with hammers doesnt always work as the mrs keeps trying to tell me! any ideas lads? someone suggested maf sensor i dont even know what that is or where it is? maybe i will get the hammer out again! no seriously my cars not happy and im using a rover in its place at the mo its suicidal....

 

Sounds like it might be something with the electronic throttle system.

You are outside the U.S. correct?
If so then it is most likely going to cost alot to get it fixed and the Dealer will have to do it.

Sounds like the throttle body is going bad.

 

yeah im outside the us so i guess the dealer is my only option! for now those would you suggest cleaning out the throttle body first maybe? as this apparently isnt that difficult? i have cleaned out the airbox and any debris on the maf and now only p1171 is coming up and the engine management light hasnt come back on yet but i have deliberately not ragged it and im sure its not running as well.
i guess it cant do any harm i may as well try before i go to the stealers. any advise on how to do it and what to use to clean it would be great chaps!!!! this is when i wish i was in us lol....

 

I would remove it and clean it with brake cleaner.
