Ok, this is the 3rd time this has happened in 5 months, except this time, no matter what I do, it doesn't come out!!! I have tried turing the wheel(it doesn't lock), putting the shiffter through all the gears, have driven the car about 30 miles since it happend, tried depressing the shiftlock overide button, and nothing!! I'm going to go out after I send this and try playing with the button a bit and see if i have any WD40 to spray in it, not sure if it it coming out all the way after being depressed. Any other suggestions?? I have to drive to queens this weekend, and I aint leaving the key in the ignition in the street, especially since the alram won't arm cause the key is in the ignition!

 

Got it out!!! After serching various forums, I decided to play with the Shiftlock Overide button. After getting WD40 all over the place, I took a thin piece of metal(used the pocket holder tab from a pen), wedged it on the side of the button and lifted it up. BAM worked. I'm guessing **** gets in there and jams the button. Will take the center counsel off eventually and clean it out.

I've seen this on other vehicles - apply a small amount of graphite moly lube to the ignition and run the key through it a few times.
Don't forget to clean the key before putting it away!

I found if you just apply forward pressure to the shifter the release button pops out and the key will turn with ease. But when the button sticks (and it dont fully go into park) the key sticks in the ignition.
