Not sure if this helps but I have a 2008 which I purchased new and my factory alarm never chirped. It is always a visual indication. I wondered too if something was wrong but that's the way it is.

It has an audible alarm if it is triggered to go off for any reason. What I'm saying is when I set the alarm, the lights just flash, no audible chirp though to indicate the alarm is set. I read that that chirping sound became available in all 2011.5 Volvo's. Silent before then.

I have a 2002 HTP C70 and don't know what you are talking about in terms of an alarm. I get a chime sound at the end of raising and lowering the top to let me know the action is complete. i have an orange light on the control button when lowering and raising. It also blinks if the system is inoperable ( if the trunk is ajar, or the emergency brake isn't engaged, for example). Can you explain your alarm system?

well.. if i leave my car parked outside my work.. when i come back to my car, sometimes i see the lights on, as if the alarm activated it self but i dont listen to the horn, that should make some noise when the alarm is activated
