I've searched the web and this forum for an answer.

The gear shaft skipped out, it's now back seated. I'm trying to identify the plastic housing as it looks to be partly broken?

I had it parked on a hill, park brake not engaged. It was shifted to drive and then all mayhem broke loose

 

What year, engine and trans? What country?

 

2012, T6 AWD, D5 engine. Sold in Poland/EU

 

You have posted in the C70 forum - Is your C70 AWD?

Or what model Volvo do you have?

For a v70 the part is a 8699342
