hello,
i am looking to purchase a 98-99 volvo c70 (hard top 5spd) and was wondering what things should i look for?
the ones that i have found both have around 125xxx miles.
also are there any recalls that these cars have had?

I have owned my 1998 C70 HPT - Manual Trans - Coupe for a few years now...and overall it has been a great car. I was lucky to find a very meticulously maintained example. The mechanical bits of the C70 are very comparable with the S70 V70 of similar vintages. So, they are fairly easy to work on, maintain, and easy to get most parts for.
Things unique to the C70: Window regulators (expensive and challenging to repair or replace); Sunroof rattle (common); Broken micro switches in the front seats (seats are motorized); SC 900 / 901 Radio Cassette CD Changer (jammed CD players are common); Center Channel Pro Logic Dash Speaker - delightful in theory, but lead a hard life in the center of the dash and rarely work; Heater Cores (easy to change and will eventually fail); A/C evaporator (pain the a$$ to get to...some what invasive replacement); Lower control arms are different on the C70's; If you are looking at a convertible....then you can be on the look out for the common problems associated with a movable top. The rear back glass tends to eventually fall out of the top.
Other than that...it's a Volvo...Stage Zero maintenance is important.
If you are seriously considering purchasing a C70...I would think about parting with mine, so keep me in mind.
Good luck in your quest.
Ted
