Default MY FIRST SCARY MALFUNCTION

whats up all, i'm new to the forums and i just purchased my 2000 C70 on the 24th of this month.

i just had my first scare that almost left me srtanded away from my house. i took off very hard from a stop light and flooredit all the way to the next light and i got a check engine light and a MTC or MTS light. the car lost all engine power and would barely idle or move.

i keep a scan tool in my car, so i check the codes and it was a TPS out of range fault. i was crapping bricks!i looked under the hood to notice that the car is drive by wire, DAMN! nothing i can do with that. but i got smart and unplugged the fuses to the transmissionPCM, the engine PCM and the TPS soleniod for like 2mins and it started and worked fine.

what caused this fault to happen? what is a MTC and how do i check the codes for it?

thanks

Do a search on ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) problems, there has been a ton of issues with the ETM's failing and some cars even have extended warranty coverage from Volvo.

As far as I know, you need to check with a dealer to see if any warranties or recalls apply.

First thing I would do is clean the throttle body which is mounted under the intake.
Then if there is more problems check with the Volvo Store and see if the car has had the recall software upgrade yet.
Was it a ETS light that came on?
You might want to bring it by us to have the throttle body cleaned and Vent system inspected to make sure all it right.
That will help with taking it to the Volvo Store.
The throttle body has a Warranty for 10 Years 200,000 miles.

yeah Tech, the ETS and the check engine light came on together right after i let my foot up after the hard accelleration. man i was shook up bro. the "check engine" was for the TPS being out of range. i saw that the throttle body was under the intake manifold and i almost cried LOL......not really though. plus the engine was too hot to try to do anything with, so i had sat back in the car to think and ead my hamburger helper.

thats when i figured if it is all electronic, it needs power, so take the power away and see if it resets itself and it did.the ETS light came back on later that day, but no "check engine" light. i did notice that the car pulled a lil slower.

is the volvo store online or a physical place i can go to?

thanks for the info guys

The Volvo Store is the Dealer in Winter Park.
They are about 3-5 miles from where we are.

Sorry I was out claning my car today and installing the Fender lights like you have on your car.
If you can stop by the shop one day this week.I won't have that much time during work hours but if you come about 1:00 I usually take lunch then.
