Has anyone upgraded their radio . I would like to put in a touch screen with apple play connect
many ideas or radio’s that would work on a c70
year 2012

 

I called Crutchfield and they had no solutions. I think we are stuck.

 

I'd be curious if a head unit from a newer volvo model would work. My understanding is Volvos use a fiber optic integration so traditional after market head units won't be plug and play.

 

That is too bad. I think Volvos are great cars but when manufacturer overlook simple things it is pretty frustrating.

 

Yes the modules are connected with fiber optics. The screen (ICM) is mainly just a display. The part including the cd player (IAM) is some/most of the brains, and the speakers are powered by the AUD module on cars with "High performance/premium sound". (speaker connections are shown on the next page in the book)

In the wiring diagram the orange arrow is pointing to a fiber optic connection, with "o" above the optical cable and a directional arrow next to the o. Note there are fiber optic connectors on the 4 Sound system components, (IAM,ICM,AUD,and SUB if equipped). The ICM circled in red is the screen on the dash.

 

It’s possible to upgrade, you just need the get a smart harness integration unit to do it. Also do not turn the car on if the ccm or icm are disconnected or it will throw a service srs warning.

I know in my 08 xc90 I bought a Chinese 10” android, unit. This harness https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...caAnDXEALw_wcB
and had to place the amp with a Jbl dsp4086, in order to regain the volume level I had before. It might require a different harness than what I got but it’s basically the same setup
