Default Rust prevention in snow

Hi all. I just moved to Minnesota and I have an 04 C-70. I love this car but Im worried about rust. I see a lot of cars here with rust and I have just had my first experience with salt on the road. Can anyone offer me any advice to avoid the rust? I bought some spray can undecoating once for my truck and Im wondering if I should get some for my C-70? Thanks for any advice.

The C70 is galvanized..................it will not rust. I too live in the 'snow belt' read: Rust Capitol of the World and my 2002 C70 is rust free! Worry not grasshopper.

Thanks man that puts me a little more at ease. Anything you can recommend about the Salt the put on the road? Should I wash it off and if so how often? Is just water OK or do I need to do a complete car wash?

Interesting question. My wife has her winter auto washed at the auto wash at least 3 times a week simply because her auto is metallic black and the white salt in her opinion is "ugly" on her auto.
Now for my case, the entire neighborhood laughs at me as I refuse to go to an auto wash simply because of the damage they do to your auto. I had my house plumbed for hot water at the driveway tap and so I for many many years wash my autos in the drive way with the temperature close to 0's F. My wife and neighbors say I do this because I am frugal.
So, the underside of your Volvo will not rust if you do not wash off the underside salt but what you want to do is totally up to you. Incidentally most cities are cutting back on the salt because of budget constraints and the increase in price for road salt. What they are now doing is mixing salt with a lot of sand. The down side of that is the sewers are becoming plugged with run-off sand!
