Interesting failure of my 02 c70 automatic shift cable that can be avoided. My low mileage c70 (40,000) became locked in reverse a short while back. The cause? Apparently my battery leaked acid over a long period of time and the corrosive acid 'ate' the plastic fitting that attaches to the shift arm of the transmission. To replace the cable the centre console has to be removed which also involves removing the rear seat. All in all it was a 500 dollar repair at the dealer. Perhaps one should, on occasion, hose down the area under the battery box so as to flush away the acid. As a side note, this spring my drivers side window regulator failed (common to a c70) and that was a 600 dollar repair. Over the years this auto has been similar to a boat...........a money pit. I keep it simply because of the styling.
