I am thinking about buying an S70 with what the owner claims to be a broken shift cable. He says it won't start because the car doesn't sense that its in park or neutral. He says he can move the shifter up and down as well. I did see a thread or two about that cable donut popping out of the mount but not sure if that's the case here. What do you guys think?

 

It's likely the cam sensor.

It doesn't crank at all. If that helps.... he claims his dad is a mechanic and stated the shift cable broke off in the trans... I'm used to GM transmissions so I don't know if that's plausible...

 

Could be anything. How much does he want for it?

 

$800. It has 140k on it and he is unsure if its a turbo. Body is pretty good. Leather is worn in spots....

 

$800 Is not a bad price unless it has body damage. If it's a GLT or T5 it is turbo. Try to get him to split the tow and go for it. Tinker with it to get it running then decide if you will keep or sell it. If you get it running you can get $1,500 for it easy.
