very stiff steering on 2000 C70
My 2000 C70 has very stiff steering sometimes and sometimes not. I changed the power steering fluid from ATF to a quality steering fluid. From time to time it goes out while I'm on the interstate and is like manual steering. Am I looking at a steering rack? Rebuilt versus new? Are there other tests I can perform? If it is the rack any directions how to get it out/in?
Please advise.
Thanks in advance, Guy

Rack it is.....
After looking at how to get it out, I think I need to take my time and be patient. It will take some time to get the rack and make the repairs but I will keep you posted when it is finished or maybe before if I have questions.
Thanks, Guy

RE: very stiff steering on 2000 C70
Changed rackwith a used one right after Christmas. Could not find a rebuilt anywhere that was in stock/available. Tech you are correct it is a pain of a job. I think I have pulled engines that were easier than that. However if I ever do it again I am more knowledgable and it should go faster. After the rack was replaced I did have a little bit of "stiffness" in the steering sometimes so I replaced the pump too about a week later. Has been working great since.
Thanks, GM
