Wanting back up sensors -2008 C70
I have a 2008 C70 and would like to have back up sensors installed.
Dealer wants $950.00! Right, not pesos, but bucks.
Now I do appreciate all the safety and other integrated systems Volvo has in there design of this vehicle, but twice the after market value is a bit hard for me to reconcile. My main concern is what am I really forfeiting passing on the dealer's installation / system?
Has anyone here have a tried and true after market system installed? Did you go with the rearview mirror camera system or just an audio alarm?
Who performed the install?
FYI-
One little feature (of the few) I have discovered so far about Volvo's designs:
Dim or burned out tail light ?
Pay the $9.00 for their replacement bulb. That is if you want the dash to signal the light has burned out. ($9 because the base is made of silver which works with the grounding somehow so the indicator light will turn on win burned out.)
Also, Volvo's replacement bulb has an additional element that works the rear fog lights.
The substandard after market bulbs @ $3.00 for two - no burned out or fog light features.

You can buy a license plate frame mounted back up camera. Or you can buy a GPS that has a camera built into it. There is no reasonfor you to spend $900.I think the license plate mounted camera needs to be wired into the backup lights.
The Volvo system is fully integrated with the audio system. The aftermarket systems I've seen have been pretty low quality and often come in with sensor issues.
The license plate frame cameras look cheap (because they are).
As for the bulbs- they aren't magic. You can get cheap bulbs, as long as the wattage is the same. That's what sets the bulb failure warning off.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really just want simple audio sensor. Without a larger dash mounted video screen, I'd hate to be disappointed in low light situations. The rearview mirror screen is barely acceptable when at its best IMO.
So any C70 owners have this retro fit?
I'm told the newer C70's with the factory installed had to forfeit their Dyna Audio option due to the fiber optic loop that apparently is required. (just "parroting" what I was told.) If you've ever have a Dyna Audio system, you'll fully understand what an additional cost you'd suffer.
