Today my 2022 XC60 R-Design notified me that there is a OTA software update available for installation. You can imagine how excited I am to get the package installed!!! Hopes are high. Will update this thread as soon as software update is complete. *Fingers crossed…

Sounds great! I assume you are installing version 1.7
Did you review the release notes? (See link below. I assume the vehicle in the link below matches yours.)
The Sirius XM radio functionality looked interesting. Maybe that feature is intended for a different market and not for USA vehicles?

@BuzzyBud yeah, a few very minor updates in this rev"1.7 update, which included SIRIUS XM app. This is most ironic since I recently received an email from SIRIUS stating that the 3 month trial subscription that came with the car will end next month. I did notice another few minor tweaks, but still Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay are still glaringly omitted.

Default Oh Happy Day's

Thank you BuzzyBud for your link below XC60 2022 Recharge: Software Update Today - Volvo Forums - Volvo Enthusiasts Forum as it includes some info I was told about back in June or July by a Volvo Cars Rep. It specifically implies what I was told re: adding a timer to start the charging sequence after you are parked at home and plugged in. I was beginning to think I'd never see this feature.

Features planned later in 2021/2022:

  • Air Quality - track the air quality and start the pre-cleaning of the vehicle
  • Car status – see mileage and other dashboard driving statistics in the app
  • Driving journal – keep track of mileage, trips and duration
  • Push notifications to your phone when charging starts or has been interrupted
  • Charging timers – remote pre-setting of when charging should start to take advantage of charging at low tariff times (only for Recharge models)
  • Charging saved location – the vehicle remembers the amperage at different charging points (only for Recharge models)

How will I get these updates?

The software required for the Volvo Cars app functions will be sent directly to the vehicle via Over the Air updates (OTA), so you don't have to visit a workshop. All these updates are free of charge. You will find more information about the update process here: Updating Over The Air (OTA).

This is like a virtual Xmas present if it's well tested.
It pays to keep the faith and keep reading

Yes, these updates will be amazing! The Charging Timers functionality will be extremely helpful for anyone. As a future pure electric owner, I enjoyed seeing the Charging Saved Location functionality. I suspect my learning curve will resemble the average new owner who migrates from ICE to EV. We begin with “Range Anxiety” and progress to “Range Confidence.” The new functionality will aid in my progression.

I like the idea of having Over-the-Air updates. I am not sure if Volvo is using a “Push” or “Pull” method for OTA updates.

In the video below I advanced the discussion to the spot where the narrator shows the functions within the System section of the settings. Notice the “System Update.” If you have a similar infotainment system, have you tried accessing this? For me, it implies a potential “Pull” method for obtaining updates.

We get 3 month SIRIUS subscriptions any time our cars (Ford/Honda) are in the shop for anything. Good to know that will happen with Volvo too although we never use it 😉

I've never heard of "free 3-month" updated SiriusXM subscriptions every time a vehicle goes into a shop for maintenance/repair. We have found SiriusXM to be so limited that we always let our subscriptions lapse in our cars after the free period ends.

Hi, received an email from Volvo alerting me to the availability of an OTA software update. Below are the update particulars:

Updates in software version 1.10

  • Improvements to gear transitions, fuel to electric drive transitions and charging performance.
  • Improved steering support when Lane Keeping Aid intervenes in a lane with solid lines.
  • Improved sensitivity for Rear Automatic Braking - better object tracking while reversing.
  • Smoother start-up and shutdown sequences for interior and ambient lighting.
  • Revision of the engine control system optimisation.
Does not look like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are included? If you install it’ll be interesting to know your results. Will attempt and update the thread when complete.

It's just amazing that so many software updates are needed for so many key aspects of driving the XC60 T8 -- things that should have been implemented before shipping from the factory...

Update: My ‘22 XC60 Recharge is updated to v1.10 but it took a visit to the dealer to make it happen. According to Steve the service manager, the software downloaded partially and failed when I attempted to install at home (and, yes I followed the installation instructions to the letter).

So, on the way home I noticed that the car will not connect to cellular data (*ugh!!!). Thinking of going back to the dealer and have them reconnect my XC60 unless I can figure out how to do this myself!!!

Update: Complained to Volvo corporate about the issues I’ve been having with my XC60 which included LTE connection being broken (see previous post above). The Volvo service department must have gotten a call from corporate, and scheduled me for service and also gave me a loaner car. The short of it is the Volvo service dept had my car for 2 days, and when I got my XC60 back the LTE issue was resolved and the Google system was updated to v2.0:

Updates in software V2.0

  • Android R. This operating system version includes new functionality and new app categories.
  • In-car functionality:
    • Improved starting sequence of OTA update installations.
    • Switching profiles no longer disturbs the navigation view in the driver display.
    • Audio system stability improvement.
    • Stability improvements of climate timers.
    • Radio reception improvements.
    • Camera application stability improvements.
    • Parking sensor bug resolved.
    • Improved centre display shutdown behaviour when locking the car.
  • Mobile app functionality:
    • Lock status stability improvements.
    • Improved accuracy of displayed charging status and battery level.
    • More frequent climate status updates.
  • Drivetrain optimisation adjustments.

I have noticed that the Volvo app works a little better and some of the icons in the menu have changed.

Uhhh, aren’t the instructions simply Drive it (to download), park it, and lock it (to update)? If on auto-update, what else is there? Am I missing something?

@Skerinks Here there are a couple of things you need to do to ensure your Volvo installs the OTA update, you can find that information here. Here are my take always:
1) Make sure the car is not plugged in (i.e not recharging)
2) Initiate update from the center console, then exit and lock the car using the KEY FOB…
3) Give the car at least 90 mins for update to install. Do not unlock the car during this time as doing so will interrupt/cancel the install.

Hope this helps? Let me know how it goes?
