Default MPG can’t be right…

Hello,

My 3 months old 2022 XC90 recharge is showing a very poor MPG reading in the dash. Driving is a mix highway and city drive, average 30 miles/day. After making an effort to charge it overnight to see if that changed the reading, it went up to only 22 after about 10 days. That is super poor, and trust me, I am not heavy on the gas (I get 52 MPG on my daughter’s Honda Insight).
Asking a friend with the same car (2021 model), that doesn’t charge much, and goes mostly on gas, and he is getting about 23 mpg. Better, but also a bad reading. Is this right? I believe the posted efficiency says 27 mpg combined on gas only and up to 50 something on electric charging/gas combined.
Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Van

To me, that is definitely low. Kinda strange that I get better gas mileage in a 2018 volvo S60 T5 than you do in a 2022 recharge.

I am not familiar with the recharges, are there different drive modes available?

Yes, doesn’t sound right at all. The car does offer different driving modes, but I always use the standard (Hybrid) mode, which is the most efficient/recommended mode. So it isn’t that..

Have you tested your mpg reading to what you are really getting? Fill up your gas to full until the handle clicks and turns off. Drive and use half a tank or so and fill it up again until it clicks. Divide the miles traveled by gallons filled on the last fill-up and see if it matches what the car says.
