Hi Fellow Member,
I have a Volvo XC 60 T8 Recharge in Australia which is MY22 (Early) model.
I have driven around 12k and have been through a service with dealership.
Recently, I have notice two scenarios:
Scenario 1: While driving in "D", I have a chugging noise from the rear while braking
Scenario 2: While driving in "B", when I lift my foot off the accelerator and as re-gen happens, I have experienced a chugging noise similar to Scenario 1
Has anyone experienced similar sort of situation? If Yes, then please share what you had to do to resolve the issue.
Is it normal, to develop these sort of issues? Maybe parts quality or design flaws that lead to this situation.
Appreciate if you could share.
Thanks
Update: I have schedule a inspection and check up of the issue with the dealership and that will happen next week so will come back with an update Volvo XC 60 T8 Recharge Onyx Black
Update: Volvo has been left with the dealership workshop for checking the noise and I will report back if they have managed to isolate the issue and resolve it
Been advised that there is a safety recall on VOLVO XC60 T8 Recharge. I have check Volvo website and it relates to R10198 Ecm Upgrade. Tried to get more information and here is a description and some warning messages that can be experienced. R10198 ECM Upgrade Description of Defect: The estimated cooling flow on the electrical drive (ED) cooling circuit is set to zero due to faulty software logic when max cooling is requested. When the estimated cooling flow is set to zero, the Inverter Generator Module will set available torque to zero and the combustion engine will not start
Safety Risk: Customers may experience loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash
Identification of Warning: If issues occurs customers will experience message in - Propulsion System Service Required at start, customer can start/drive the car on electric propulsion. When any criteria for combustion engagements is fulfilled, second warning will appear (Turtle in DIM and Speed Limited to 75 km/h). If customer ignores visual and mechanical warnings, vehicle will display "stop safely" and loose electric propulsion as high voltage battery is depleted.
I would suggest if you have these issues then first check if your vehicle is impacted due to recall which is not proactive but rather owners have to do their due diligence.

Update: I got my Volvo back and the rear Brake pads had bonded against the rear rotors or stuck and hence shattered. The work has not been completed and the chugging sound issue has been resolved. The dealership advised that similar issues were reported and this is not one off issue. Could be related to failing parts like brake pads so watch out for this issue or sound. My T8 recharge was made by Volvo in China, not sure if others do share the same issues related to quality.
I have also had T8's software updated to V2.5 and I went from being at V2.3.1 (After my Polestar Optimisation) along with this recall for ECM upgrade has also been completed.
I have an xc90 T8…I think I have the same issue…can u tell me exactly what was the problem?! Thank u
Hi Klerik, Issue with my T8 recharge was a chugging sound which was heard while braking. Resolution: The issue was brake pads which had bonded against the rear disks. The issue was resolved by changing the brake pads and the chugging sound was sorted. Try and get your dealership to check brake pads and its current state to see if there is any degradation of disks

Thank u for your answer. Appreciate. I heard sometimes (not always) that chugging sound after pushing the brake. Or I’m not sure like u said when I lift my foot off the accelerator and as re-gen happens. 🙏
